A Fuzzy Based Heuristic Approach to Solve Cell Formation Problems
Abstract: A fuzzy based heuristic approach is proposed to solve multi-objective cell formation problems. This approach consists of a real coded genetic algorithm and fuzzy logic. The proposed technique is applied in two successive stages. Firstly, the minimum and maximum value of each objective is determined by using a single objective genetic algorithm. In the second stage, fuzzy logic concept is incorporated to calculate the degree of membership for individual objective. …

A New Heuristic Method for the Classical Transportation Problem's First Viable Solution
Abstract: The transportation problem is a classic optimization issue in linear programming that focuses on determining the most cost-effective way to allocate resources from multiple supply points to various demand points while meeting specific constraints. Traditionally, methods like the North-West Corner Rule (NWCR), Least Cost Method (LCM), and Vogel’s Approximation Method (VAM) have been employed to generate an initial feasible solution (IFS). However, these approaches often overlook key factors such as …

Technology Education: Rethinking Design Thinking
Abstract: An integral aspect of a designer& work is to apply design thinking to the process of coming up with innovative answers to difficult problems. However, there has been little exploration of how design thinking influences instructional decision-making. Therefore, designing is often portrayed as a rational, idealistic activity in technology curricula, one that results in well considered, long- term changes in the built environment. Students learning about technology via design thinking …

Behavioural Finance: An Indian Perspective
Abstract: Conventional finance has long rested on the premise of fully rational agents operating in efficient and frictionless markets, where all available information is instantly reflected in asset prices and investment decisions are made to maximize expected utility. However, a substantial body of empirical evidence has challenged these assumptions, revealing that investors frequently deviate from rational behaviour due to cognitive limitations, emotions, and psychological biases. Behavioural finance emerged as an alternative …

FinMate: A Cloud-Based AI and Machine Learning Systemfor Smart Finance Management
Abstract: Managing your own money has become a lot harder since the number of digital payments in India has gone up a lot. The most popular tools still rely on fixed keyword heuristics, which means they can't learn, make predictions about the future, or give tax advice. FinMate fixes these problems with a cloud-native microservices platform that combines three machine learning models with a rule-based engine for optimising taxes. An XGBoost …
